Fire Study

Test firing an Oil (#2 diesel) Burner for a steam locomotive. It's a gravity feed with a sheet of air coming out just below the fuel to atomize it for better combustion.

I designed the burner to work well, but I wasn't expecting a ten foot long flame to pour out of it's mouth! This photograph was taken, obviously, from behind the burner. I found the pattern in the flame rather unique because of the rectangular opening that the air and oil come out of.

I tell you what, that there's some good fire.
